Cheerdancing takes center stage this Saturday as seven teams battle for supremacy in the much-awaited Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheerdance Competition at the Araneta Coliseum.
The De La Salle University Animo Squad will kick off the event before an expected jampacked crowd at the Big Dome followed by eight-time champion University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe, last year’s runner-up.
Third on the floor is Ateneo de Manila University’s Blue Babble Battalion followed by the Far Eastern University Cheering Squad, Adamson University Pep Squad, and University of the East Pep Squad.
Three-time champion National University Pep Squad will try to cement its hold on the crown this year and match UST Salinggawi’s historic four-peat.
Aside from the main cheerdance event, the teams will also showcase their skills through the group stunts category which was bagged by Salinggawi last year.
There will be two panels of judges to determine the rankings of the teams. Four judges make up the dance panel and four for the cheer panel. In the cheer part, judges will particularly look into stunts, pyramids, tosses, and tumbling.
UP Pep Squad, which also has eight titles, skipped this year’s competition after it protested last year’s results.
