The PH Ice Hockey Team bagged the bronze medal in its debut at the recently concluded Asian Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan.
The Philippines is the only tropical country that won a medal in the weeklong Winter Games.
Ramon F. Villavicencio, whose Flying V is sponsoring the team, believes the sport should be given due priority to develop and eventually blossom.
The PH Team struck with five goals in the first period to score a 9-2 win over Macau.
In reaching the bronze-medal play, the Filipinos won two games and lost one in Group 2. They dropped their opening match to Kyrgyzstan, 5-10, before bouncing back with a 14-2 beating of Qatar, and an 8-3 triumph over Independent Olympic Athletes.
Turkmenistan took the gold after they got past Kyrgyzstan, 7-3, in the finals.
Prior to this, the team had already reached the finals of the second division Hong Kong Invitationals for two consecutive years.
