On this day, Norman Black poured in 60 points as the San Miguel Brewers beat Gilbey’s Gin, 125-107, in the PBA Reinforced All-Filipino Conference as reported in the March 14, 1982 edition of the Bulletin Today by Bert Eljera.
The 6-foot-5 Black scored 21 points in the fourth quarter alone, thwarting the rally of the Gins. Jesse Migalbin, Marte Saldana, and Biboy Ravanes chipped in 14, 13, and 11 points for the Brewers who were then coached by Tommy Manotoc.
Lawrence Massey also had 60 points for the Gins but lacked local support. Valerio de los Santos was the lone local in double figures with 10 markers.
In the other game that day, Yco-Tanduay leaned on Russell Murray’s all-around brilliance to down Great Taste, 117-103. Murray finished the night with 37 points, 18 rebounds and three shot blocks.
Mike Bilbao finished with 11 points and 13 assists for the Esquires while rookies Jayvee Yango, Frankie Lim and Zaldy Latoza combined for 34 points.
