Manila, Philippines – The race for the fourth and last semis berth further intensified over the weekend as University of Santo Tomas (UST) and La Salle dumped separate foes in the UAAP football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Growling Tigers overwhelmed Adamson University, 4-1, while the Green Archers blanked University of the East, 2-0.
The win gave UST a total of13 points, two clear of the La Salle Archers.
On Saturday, Ateneo subdued National University, 1-0, to remain on top of the table with 23 points, while defending champion University of the Philippines bested Far Eastern University, 1-0, to level its victims in second place with 18.
Renz Gumban, Marvin Bricenio and rookie Conrado Dimacali scored their second goals of the season while Darryl Regala also found the back of the net for the Tigers, who now have two victories in the second round.
Kim Bardaje averted a shutout for the Falcons with a late second half goal.
Marcus Garcia and Jose Montelibano struck in the 26th and 53rd minute, respectively.
Jarvey Gayoso netted his league-best sixth goal of the season in the 11th minute as the Blue Eagles maintained their unbeaten record.
