2 p.m. – UST vs FEU (stepladder)
Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas, hoping to earn the right to face Ateneo in the finals, clash today in the stepladder semifinal round in the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament.
The knockout match is set at 2 p.m. at The Arena in San Juan City with the winning squad arranging a second do-or-die duel against the second-seeded National University.
The winner in the FEU-UST duel, however, has to beat NU twice to secure a title clash with the Eagles.
Ateneo earned an outright finals berth following a 14-game sweep of the double-round elims.
The Tams and the Tigers are seeded third and fourth, respectively, with 8-6 and 6-8 win-loss records in the elims, while the Bulldogs finished at No. 2 with a 12-2 record.
UST, which finished seventh last season, needs to exert more if it is to beat FEU – the only other team aside from Ateneo that beat them twice in the elims, including a 25-23, 25-18, 25-18, in its last elims match.
But Tigers Coach Ogie Mamon is optimistic his stalwarts can regain their composure to satiate their thirst for a crown where they last won six years ago.
