12 noon – NU vs FEU (men’s stepladder)
Far Eastern University (FEU) rallied from a six-point deficit in the third set and turned back University of Santo Tomas (UST), 25-22, 27-25, 25-18, in the stepladder semis of the UAAP men’s volleyball tournament yesterday at The Arena in San Juan City.
After a hard-fought second win, the Tamaraws found themselves trailing the Tigers, 16-10.
But the Tamaraws persevered, coming through with a series of combination plays that enabled them to wipe out UST’s lead and take control of the game.
FEU’s win gave the Morayta-based squad the right to face National University (NU) in the second stepladder semis.
The third-seeded FEU, however, needs to beat No. 2 NU twice to arrange a best-of-three finals showdown with defending champion Ateneo, which earned an outright finals seat following a 14-game elims sweep.
“Pina-praktis naman namin yung mga ganung situation eh. Hindi ako nagta-timeout during that time kasi malaki yung tiwala ko sa team na mag-adjust sa mga ganung scenario,” said FEU Coach Rey Diaz, whose team was coming off from back-to-back fifth place finishes.
