4 p.m. – La Salle vs UST (Women’s)
La Salle is probably looking at its semifinal date with University of Santo Tomas (UST) as just a stepping stone to the more important task ahead, a finals seat and a showdown possibly with nemesis Ateneo for the UAAP women’s volleyball championship.
The La Salle Lady Spikers enjoy a twice to beat advantage for placing second in the qualification rounds and therefore just need a win today to formalize their advance to the finals.
The Lady Tigresses on the other hand, third in the final four standings, must win today in their 4 p.m. encounter at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to force a rubber match.
The other semifinal will pit Ateneo against Far Eastern University tomorrow at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Such is the interest and fan acceptance of this tournament that it is almost played like the UAAP basketball men’s semifinals where only one game is scheduled instead of a doubleheader in the Final Four.
UST is hoping to spoil what many die-hard followers of the two elite schools are clamoring although upsetting La Salle will be like climbing the Everest.
But UST coach Kungfu Reyes said the team is ready and has prepared hard for this match as they try to make the most of their first trip to the semis in five years.
