Call it great courage.

Showing plenty of it, Desiree Cheng and Tin Tiamzon took the spotlight away from their more-celebrated teammates last night as the La Salle Lady Spikers completed another difficult journey in retaining the UAAP women’s volleyball crown.

The two unheralded players rose to the occasion in the final two sets as the Lady Spikers outlasted the archrival Ateneo Lady Eagles, 19-25, 25-14, 18-25, 25-18, 15-10, to remain champions of the UAAP’s second biggest competition before a big crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Like in opening game of their best-of-three title series, the Lady Spikers also dropped the first set but willed their way back into the contest with another performance for the ages.

Cheng completed a Cinderella comeback after missing all of last season’s title run with an ACL injury by scoring 12
