Jose Rizal University (JRU) and Letran seek to regain their lost bearings when they tangle today at the resumption of the 93rd NCAA men’s basketball tournament at The Arena in San Juan City.
Game time is at 2 p.m. with both teams hoping to erase the stigma of stinging recent losses.
Still licking their wounds from a heartbreaking 115-109 double overtime defeat at the hands of the Arellano Chiefs five days back, the Heavy Bombers are expected to come out more determined particularly at crunch time.
In that game, JRU failed to sustain its hot form that allowed Arellano to gain confidence and grab the momentum in the extra period.
Defense will also be the key for the Bombers after allowing their rivals to score an average 67.6 points a game.
But the Knights have become proficient inside the paint, coming in second with the most number of rebounds with an average of 46.7 boards a game.
Also exciting to watch would be the battle of two sweet shooters, Teytey Teodoro of JRU and Rey Nambatac of Letran, who average 14.8 and 17.1 points a game, respectively.
But the crucial part would be the support they would be getting from their teammates. Teodoro will lean on Jed Mendoza, Ervin Grospe and AbdulWahab AbdulRazak, while Nambatac has Bong Quinto, JP Calvo and Jerrick Balanza as reinforcements.
The Knights aspire to improve on their 5-5 card.
Meanwhile, Mapua aims to snap a nine-game losing skid when it clashes with Emilio Aguinaldo College at 4 p.m.
The Cardinals got an extra day of respite after their Tuesday’s game against powerhouse Arellano was postponed due to inclement weather. But with their situation at the bottom a 1-10 slate, the Cards don’t have the luxury of time to keep its campaign alive.
