Bangkok, Thailand – The three man ABAP national team to the Asian Youth Boxing Championships here advanced to the quarterfinals by winning their respective matches in the second round of the preliminaries Sunday.
Criz Russu Laurente won by RSC (Referee Stopped Contest) in the third and final round of his light flyweight (49 kg) match with Yhlas Gylychjanov of Turkmenistan.
The boy from General Santos attacked with abandon in the third round and the referee gave the Turkmeni three standing 8 counts before waving off the fight.
Laurente’s elder brother Criztian Pitt also dominated his rival from Afghanistan, Hassibulah Ahmadiwith, three judges returning identical 30-27 cards while two others scored it 30-26, for the unanimous decision.
Leyteño Milenino Anduyan also blanked Jihoon Jung of Korea in the 52 kg flyweight category, peppering his opponent with crisp head punches and an aggressive final round.
All three boxers see action today with Russu taking on Barun Shagolsem Singh of India, Anduyan vs. Sam and Ar Kholmorudov of Uzbekistan and Pitt against Non Bang of Cambodia.
There are 32 countries with a total 208 boxers entered here. The tournament serves as the qualifying event for the Youth Olympic Games in Buenaseda Aires,Argentina in October. Philippine coaches are Pat Gaspi and Elias Recaido.
