The stars of Manila Wrestling Federation came back where it all started as they dazzle Filipino wrestling fans at History with intense in-ring action.
“If it wasn’t for History Con we wouldn’t have the platform to really launch our product. History Con was the first time we were able to showcase Manila Wrestling Federation to a big audience and the fact that we’re here again in full force – it’s everything to us,” MWF Commissioner Mike Shannon said.
Mr. Lucha, competitor and co-founder of MWF, recalled the birth pains of the promotion back when it launched at the first History Con in Manila.
“Actually we were not ready. We did not have a ring. Sobrang skeleton crew lang kami,” said Mr. Lucha. (We were working on a skeleton crew.)
“Naki-share kami ng ring sa boxers pero yung nga that’s how we started. We wrestled on boxing rings,” he revealed. (We had to share a ring with the boxer but that’s how we started.)
Mr. Lucha believes that Professional wrestling is a “very underrated” segment of history and pop-culture. According to the MWF performer, the sport’s main contribution is can be seen in the field of entertainment.
“Our approach to wrestling here in the Philippines is more like a TV show or a drama series with said action which is wrestling,” said Mr. Lucha.
The MWF superstars, along with a few competitors from counterpart promotion Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR) put on stellar matches for the History Con crowd from Aug. 11 to 13 at the World Trade Center, in Pasay City.
However, Shannon revealed that History Con is only a teaser of MWF 4: Road to Fate on Sept. 8 at the University of the Philippines Bahay ng Alumni.
“It’s gonna be an amazing show. We’re gonna have the semi-finals for the MWF Championship tournament. We got two back-to-back matches and also we have the returning Eurasian Dragon. Eurasian Dragon is gonna take on Mr. Lucha, that’s gonna be a main event for the ages.” Shannon announced.
