The gold medal triumph of Margie Didal has already started rendering positive ripple effects. According to Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmena, who made a statement through Theia Sports, skateboarders will now be given a place to hone their skills.
“Because of the awareness raised by people like Margielyn Didal, Cebu City will be building a skate park in the South Road Properties,” said Mayor Osmena.
“Soon, people like you will finally have a place that is safe, free from traffic, and able to call your own.”
Didal spoke about how people had a negative perception on skateboarding and hoped that they will not be apprehended by authorities whenever they practice in the streets.
“Dapat maiba na tingin ng tao sa skateboarding,” Didal said. “Sana ‘wag na tayo huhulihin sa daan.”
After the gold medal victory, Didal hopes to compete more in international competitions. Aside from that, she is hoping to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
