University of the Philippines (UP) shoots for its first Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference women’s crown today against Far Eastern University (FEU) at The Arena in San Juan City.

Match is at 6 p.m. with the Lady Maroons out to sweep their best-of-three title series against the Lady Tamaraws.

Riding on the crest of its 14-25, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-5 Game 1 triumph over the weekend, the Diliman-based squad is expected to draw offense from Isa Molde and Marian Buitre.

But UP needs to step on the gas right from the start after needing to extend Sunday’s game into a deciding fifth set to claim the win.

Roselyn Rosier is also slated to provide ample support for the Lady Maroons after stepping up with 15 points in Game 1 – a far cry from her 9.3-point average in the conference.

FEU, however, won’t be giving the title on a silver platter.

Determined to eclipse their runner-up finish last year, the Lady Tamaraws are expected to toughen up their composure in the crunch to extend the series into a deciding match.

In Game 1, FEU failed to recover after squandering a two-set lead with its erratic plays in the third frame before completely losing steam in the fifth set.

Jerrili Malabanan and Heather Guino-o are expected to carry the fight for the Lady Tams while Celine Domingo is a doubtful starter after aggravating a knee injury late in Game 1.

Meanwhile, National University also seeks the men’s crown when it collides with University of Santo Tomas in Game 2 of their title affair.

The Bulldogs took Game 1, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-17.
