Games Tuesday (Strike Gymnasium)
7 p.m. – Navotas vs San Juan
9 p.m. – Bacoor vs Pasig
The Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) Datu Cup goes to the Strike Gymnasium in Bacoor today with an interesting double-header.
Tournament favorite San Juan shoots for its eighth win and hopes to gain a share of the lead with Bataan as they face the Navotas Clutch in the first game at 7 p.m.
The Knights have lost only once so far, bowing to Muntinlupa Cagers-Angelis Resort. They are heavily favored against the Clutch, although the return of Ron Dennison, Matt Salem, and Kris Porter, could tilt the odds.
In the main game, host team Bacoor takes on Pasig at 9 p.m. The Strikers will likewise welcome back Gab Banal into the fold and hopefully, check their skid.
Banal has been a vital cog for the Strikers, emerging as their best scorer with an average of 18.5 points per game, the fifth best in the league. Not only is the second generation player known for his scoring prowess, but he is also among the top playmakers in the league, averaging 6.7 assists per game.
At 4-4, the Strikers will try to move up in the south division against a Pirates team that has battling internal turmoil.
The Pirates and the Cebu Sharks are owners of the tournament’s worst record with a 1-7 slate.
