Adamson attempts to distance itself from the main pack as the Soaring Falcons meet the La Salle Green Archers at the close of the first-round eliminations today in the 81st UAAP men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 4 p.m. clash between Adamson and La Salle is a rematch of last year’s Final Four showdown the Archers won, giving head coach Franz Pumaren, who used to call the shots for the Taft-based squad, every reason to treat it as not just another game.

Adamson is also determined to storm back given that its winning ways got snapped by Far Eastern, 88-85, the last time.

“It’s going to be tough, La Salle still has its core, and they’re playing solid on both ends. So we have to come out strong,” said Pumaren, who won five championships with the Archers from 1999 to 2002 and in 2008.

In the opener, cellar-dwellers University of the East and National collide at 2 p.m.
