Fil-American heavyweight king Brandon “The Truth” Vera gave Filipino fans a sneak peek of next Friday’s ONE: Conquest of Champions main event during an open workout, Nov. 16, at the Victoria Sports Tower, in Quezon City.
“Dalawang taon akong nawala sa circle ng ONE,” Vera told reporters before hitting the pads. “But don’t think for a second that I wasn’t training and keeping sharp.”
“The whole time I’ve been getting faster, stronger, better – understanding the game more.”
Vera – who took two years off for the filming of action movie “Buy Bust” – revealed that he’s been training more frequently despite his extracurriculars.
Vera revealed that he learned to train “two to three times a day, six days a week” since moving to the Philippines. His motivation? “Just to avoid traffic.”
The 41-year-old has never been defeated since joining ONE. His last three fights feature first-round knockouts of Igor Subora, Paul Cheng, and Hideki Sekine.
However, Vera is convinced that his upcoming defense will be tougher as Italian challenger Mauro Cerilli is a serious threat to his reign.
“He can stand there, move while he swings. He’s not a heavyweight that stands in one spot,” Vera said of Cerilli. “He will move. He’s got that deadly overhand right and we’ve seen that thing make careers.”
Asked how he plans to neutralize Cerilli’s explosive right punch, Vera replied:
“I plan not to get hit by it.”
