Manny Pacquiao began the crucial sparring phase of his training yesterday for his January 19 fight against Adrien Broner of the US at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
George Kambosos of Australia, who had been Pacquiao’s sparmate before, was tapped to work with the Filipino’s camp anew.
Pacquiao formally began training last Nov. 25 after doing a whirlwind two-city promotional tour in the US.
Pacquiao will stay in the Philippines until the third week of this month before heading back to the US for the final four weeks of buildup.
The Broner fight will be Pacquiao’s first defense of the WBA welterweight crown he took away from Lucas Matthysse of Argentina last July in Kuala Lumpur.
