Olivarez College held Diliman College scoreless in the first four minutes of the payoff period and went on to win, 81-73, forcing sudden death in their title series in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 3 yesterday at the Olivarez campus gym in Parañaque City.
Taking full advantage of the crowd support, the Sea Lions caught the Blue Dragons off guard with their suffocating defense early in the fourth that saw them score the first eight points, padding a third quarter edge to 73-62.
The do or die match is set on Monday at 12 noon with the momentum on Olivarez’s side.
Vinn Begaso turned out to be a revelation for the Sea Lions as he produced a double-double effort of 20 points and 16 boards. He also had four assists to highlight his solid all-around game for the Sea Lions.
Olivarez’s win was its first over Diliman this season, snapping the Blue Dragons’ 10-game winning run dating back the elims.
Meantime, Centro Escolar University salvaged some measure of pride by finishing third following an 81-73 win over Technological Institute of the Philippines.
