Bryan Otico and Marian Capadocia bested their semifinal rivals on Friday to inch closer to retaining their respective singles crowns in the 37th Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open at the PCA shellcourts in Paco, Manila.
Otico, who just turned 19 last June, rose from an opening-set loss to dispatch Elbert Anasta, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, while Capadocia cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Khim Iglupas.
The victory arranged Otico an exciting finals showdown with former top local junior player Jeson Patrombon, who outplayed fellow Davis Cupper Francis Casey Alcantara, 6-3, 7-6 (4).
Capadocia, for her part, is one victory away from becoming the most titled female netter in the tournament as she guns for her sixth crown against fourth pick Shaira Hope Rivera, a 7-6 (3), 6-1 winner over second seed Clarice Patrimonio.
Both Capadocia and Rivera have never dropped a set throughout the tournament, making their matchup thrilling.
