Pacquiao, Mayweather cross paths at NBA game

By Jan Carlo Anolin

The People’s champ Manny Pacquiao graced the Staples Center in Los Angeles and reunited with Floyd Mayweather Jr. during the NBA Filipino Heritage Night on Tuesday, Jan. 8 (Wednesday, Jan. 9 Manila time).

The boxing rivals watched the Clippers pull off a 128-109 victory over the Charlotte Hornets.

As seen in a video tweeted by the Clippers, Pacman threw a giveaway shirt to the audience and shook hands with Mayweather.

The two faced each other in 2015, billed as the “Fight of the Century,” wherein Mayweather won via unanimous decision and remained unbeaten.

The 40-year-old boxing icon also met Clippers forward Tobias Harris, and guards Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams in the locker room.

During the pre-game, Clippers head coach Doc Rivers, a boxing aficionado and a Pacquaio fan, was all smiles when he met the welterweight champion.

Rivers revealed that he has a collection of boxing gloves in his house, one pair given by Pacman himself fifteen years ago.

“I have Manny Pacquiao’s, I have [Marvelous Marvin] Hagler, I have Muhammad Ali, and I have Joe Frazier. Those are my boxing gloves that I have in my house. That’s a pretty good collection, right?” the former NBA point guard said.

The Clippers mentor then jested that if a team fight breaks out, Pacquiao should join their side.

Pacman is in his conditioning mode in LA as he is set to brawl with Adrien Broner to defend his title in the WBA Welterweight World Championship on January 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Fil-Am Blackeyed Peas rapper is also present in the house and performed with former The Voice PH finalist Jessica Reynoso during the halftime.
