The PBA officially opens its doors this coming Sunday with the traditional parade of teams with their respective muses. For NorthPort Batang Pier, it will be Aya Fernandez who is honored with the opportunity.
She is currently the Mutya ng Pilipinas 2018 – Ms. Tourism and finished among the top 5 at the Dream Girl of the Year International at the Miss Tourism International 2018 held in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia last December 21.
With her impressive resume in pageantry, she admits being an avid basketball fan.“Growing up with my Lolo, I have become a fan of basketball and the PBA,” said Fernandez.
“I personally played basketball back in high school intramurals,” she said. “That is why I am really excited because this time, I will attend not only as part of the audience watching but also representing one of the teams.”
She is currently taking up a degree in Broadcast Communication in UP Diliman. Also, this will not be the only time she paraded as a muse for a basketball team. She also won the Best Muse Award during the opening of the PBA-supported Metro League.
Fernandez is also an entrepreneur. She has also made her mark in business and was given Presidential Awardee by Go Negosyo as the Most Inspiring Filipina Entrepreneur of 2018 – Youth Category.
She founded Project Lily PH which makes eco-friendly charcoal from water lily and coco waste. Her company is also giving livelihood opportunities for PWDs.
In her free time, she does events hosting and dances hip-hop. Fernandez is also a current member of UP Streetdance Club.
For her, becoming a muse in the PBA is a combination of two of the local passions of the Philippines which is watching basketball and beauty pageants.
“Pag sinabing Pinoy we are huge fans of pageantry and basketball. And now, being a must is a fusion of the two,” she said. “I look forward to meeting the whole team and support them as well. Let’s go, Batang Pier!”
