The Letran Squires made short work of the Mapua Red Robins, 25-18, 25-19, 25-22, yesterday in NCAA juniors volleyball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Squires needed only 58 minutes in dispatching the Red Robins to clinch their sixth victory in eight outings.
Letran’s win was worth a semifinal berth and towed along University of Perpetual Help, which is gunning for a seventh straight victory at press time against Arellano.
Christian dela Cruz paced the Squires with 17 points even as Mark Omega added 15 points. The duo also merged for 28 kills.
Letran outspiked Mapua, 45-26, and slightly made more blocks, 6-5, despite struggling with 27 errors.
The Red Robins absorbed a seventh loss in eight matches with Justin Chan being the lone double-digit scorer with 10 points.
Letran also swept Mapua in the men’s division, 25-15, 25-22, 25-20, for a second win against six defeats.
Mhel Gabuyo scored 14 points, while Christopher Cestina and Angel Canzana added 11 points each for the Knights.
The Cardinals also fell to 2-6 for a four-way logjam at the bottom with the Knights, the Jose Rizal University Bombers and the San Beda Red Lions.
