Baser Amer has figured in one of the most talked about trade rumors during the off-season. This was that alleged three-way trade involving the rookie Ray Parks Jr. of Blackwater Elite with Jericho Cruz and Brian Heruela of TNT KaTropa also on the move.
But everything remained a rumor and nothing transpired. All players stayed put and Amer was still donning the colors of Meralco during the PBA Media Day held in Solaire.
Despite the swirling rumors, head coach Norman Black appreciates how the former San Beda Red Lion is handling the situation.
“Well actually, Baser (Amer) has been professional,” said Black. “He has been one of the best players in practice so far.”
Amer likes living in the present. As long as no official trade has been announced, he will play his heart out for the team that he is still under contract with.
“Be positive lang and be professional, kasi itong mga players, di namin control yung mga ganung situation,” said Amer. “Basta ako, I’m happy na nandito ako ngayon sa Meralco, and I’m excited sa mga darating na games.”
In recent tune-up games, Amer had shown and delivered for his team. Something that he hopes the team can bring into the start of the 2019 Philippine Cup.
“Lahat ng practice and mga tune-up namin, positive naman yung result. So hopefully, ma-a-apply namin sa games,” he said.
Black explained that they have no control over what the management wants to do with the players. He will just deal with the cards given to him. For now, he has Amer as his top ace point guard.
“I don’t know where he is heading down the road but right now, we just have to focus on the team we have,” said Black.
Meralco’s interest in Parks was publicly expressed by Team Governor Al Panlilio. But the Blackwater Elite and Park’s camp have not approached them about it. If they do, Panlilio is open on the offer.
Nothing is set in stone and Parks will still honor his contract with Alab Pilipinas in the ABL. Black will just have to maximize what he can for now with the players given by Meralco management.
“Rayray Parks cannot play until next conference anyway so we are focused only on the players we have going into the season,” Black ends.
