Davao Occidental hopes to ride on the momentum of its Game 2 victory when it guns for a 2-1 lead against San Juan Tuesday in Game 3 of the Maharlika Basketball League Datu Cup National Finals at The Arena in San Juan City.
Game is at 7 p.m. with the Tigers leaning on a 67-60 victory over the Knights last Saturday that equalized their best-of-five series.
Expect Davao Occidental to rev up its engine anchored on Billy Robles and Mark Yee, who knocked in 17 points and 16 points the last time.
Yee also took charge of the paint for the Tigers by hauling 10 rebounds and posting four blocks.
“Tumaas yung kumpiyansa namin (The win boosted our confidence),” said Robles after the Game 2 victory, which somehow erased the sting of their 84-74 Game 1 loss at their homecourt. Also out to provide spark for Davao Occidental is Bogs Raymundo, who collared 10 boards.
But San Juan will also be out with its deadly combo in Larry Rodriguez and Ryan Michael Ayon Ayon, who merged for 28 points despite falling short of the win.
The Knights, however, needed to regain their lost offensive touch particularly ex-pros Mac Cardona and John Wilson after the team’s 63-percent shooting performance in Game 1 fizzled out in Game 2.
Cardona and Wilson were limited to combined 12 points over the weekend.
A former scoring champion in the PBA, Cardona went 3-for-15 from the field while Wilson shot a woeful 2-for-10.
