YFL: GAU U17, Kaya Elite settle for draw

Published

Defending U17 champions Kaya Elite ‘02-’03 and fellow powerhouse Green Archers United (GAU) settled for a 1-1 draw in a heated affair even as other teams tallied lopsided victories at the Alabang Country Club in the latest match day of the 2019 Speed Regalo YFL season.

Both teams shrugged off the summer heat and relentlessly searched for a go-ahead goal but fell short. Kaya’s Kone Seydou and GAU’s Jacob Agustin Pena IV came away with goals in the fifth and 45th minute marks, respectively.

“We knew that GAU is a strong team. They won their first game and we lost out first. We knew that it was gonna be a strong challenge. At the end the boys did well despite that five (people) from our first XI were not present, but still we were able to contain then and end the game at 1-1,” said Kaya Elite ‘02-’03 head coach Lerche Njang.

Meanwhile, GOM 2002 put in a virtuoso performance to crush Atletico Diliman, 17-0. It was the most mind-boggling scoreline of the match day as GOM 2002 already built a 4-0 lead just 17 minutes into the game.

Apuesto Bueno and Mendiola came out with dominant 7-0 wins as well over G8 Academy and Loyola, correspondingly.

Over at the U15 age group, Ceres South sealed a 6-2 victory over Mendiola. The prior had all offensive cylinders clicking in the second half to keep a safe distance from its counterparts. Alfonso Rex Rosales and Chad Cedrick Chavez each finished with a brace for Ceres South. In their losing effort, John Ariel Marquez was a bright spot for Mendiola also with a brace of his own.

Similarly, MSA Agila defeated Kaya Academy ‘04-05 by the same scoreline, 6-2, bannered by Miguel Dyens’ two goals.

Another high-scoring affair also concluded with Liam Jose Evangelista leading the way with a hat-trick for a 6-3 Ceres North win versus Forza.

Apuesto Bueno sealed a 4-nil victory over Loyola with GOM 2004 taking the same scoreline over GAU. A dominant display saw Kaya Elite ‘04-’05 not letting go of the gas pedal to score five goals in each half to route G8 Academy.

In more U17 action, GOM 2003 and Ceres South had to share points after playing to a goalless draw.

Meanwhile, Ceres North carried on its stable play from its season debut and notched a 3-nil win over Forza. The prior’s deep bench allowed them to stay in control of the game and repel Forza’s attempts to spring a comeback.
