WBA Asia Minimumweight champion ArAr Andales will be facing WBA World Champion Thammanoon Niyomtrong in a champion vs. champion match in Bangkok, Thailand on August 2, 2019. This was revealed by QuiBors promoter-manager Joseph Quibral to Manila Bulletin Sports Online.
For the Thai who is also known as Knockout CP Freshmart for being sponsored by a Thai convenience store, Andales will be his sixth Filipino opponent since 2012. He last fought Toto Landero on March 6, 2018, winning via unanimous decision and retaining the WBA minimumweight title.
Andales on the other hand, last fought Cris Ganoza in April, hacking out a unanimous decision to retain the WBA Asia Minimumweight title.
Quibral is confident that Andales has what it takes to pull off a win for the Philippines.
“Magawa lang ni ArAr yung mga pinag-aralan namin, may chance tayo manalo” (For as long as ArAr executes our game plan, we have a good chance of winning),” he said in an exclusive interview.
Quibral admits that the 28-year-old Niyomtrong has the advantage in terms of experience but believes a younger and hungrier Andales would be enough to cop the WBA World title.
“Hindi namin ine-expect na mapipili kami kalaban. Pero sa pinakitang mga laban ni ArAr, nagka-interest sila. Nung manalo siya sa WBA Asia Championship gumanda ang record niya tapos na depensahan pa niya ito. Kaya lalong gumanda at umakyat siya sa WBA World ranking no. 5,” Quibral ended.
