Students taking part in the first Tempo Inter-Schools Rapid Chess Championships presented by Manila Prince Hotel will get FIDE identification numbers, according to tournament director Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales.
Gonzales said FIDE has waived ID fees until the end of the year to encourage more chess players to become members of the world’s governing body for chess.
“Once you get the FIDE ID, you are now eligible to play in international tournaments and gain ELO ratings,” said Gonzales.
The tournament, held to mark Tempo’s 37th anniversary, will be held on July 20 at the Manila Prince Hotel located at the corner of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino Street in Manila.
