Suspended Phoenix Pulse star Calvin Abueva has likely cost himself a chance for being reinstated in the immediate future after being caught playing in a tournament without the blessing of his PBA team.
Videos circulating online showed Abueva seeing action in a league held in Montalban, Rizal which is clear violation of league rules which prohibits players from taking part in unsanctioned games unless they received permission from their mother teams.
His participation certainly didn’t sit well with Phoenix management which is set to fine the controversial cager for violating team rules.
PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, on the other hand, refrained from making direct statements regarding possible repercussions of Abueva’s actions.
“Kung sa tingin niya makakabuti yan para ma-lift yung suspension niya, e di sige. Basta ako pinapanood ko lang mga ginagawa niya,” Marcial said.
(“If he thinks that it would help him get his suspension lifted then so be it. I’m just here monitoring his activities.”)
Abueva was banned in early-June for making a lewd gesture at Maika Rivera, the girlfriend of Blackwater rookie Ray Parks Jr., and for hitting TNT KaTropa import Terrence Jones with a clothesline.
Marcial had earlier said that Abueva must meet certain conditions before being allowed to get back on the PBA hardcourt.
One of which was to issue an apology which Abueva had already submitted, though he was also required by the Games and Amusements Board to issue a written explanation for his hit on Jones.
