Games Today (Mapua Gym, Intramuros Manila)
1 p.m. – Mapua vs St. Benilde (Jrs)
4 p.m. – Mapua vs St. Benilde (Srs)
College of St. Benilde tries to keep its record clean and grab a share of the lead when it clashes with Mapua today in NCAA men’s basketball at the Mapua gym in Intramuros, Manila.
The match is at 4 p.m. after junior counterparts, the Malayan Red Robins and La Salle Greenhills Greenies, collide at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s finals.
St. Benilde made its title campaign felt after scoring back-to-back wins over Emilio Aguinaldo College, 69-66, and University of Perpetual Help, 75-63, at second place, just half a game behind defending three-time champion San Beda.
St. Benilde coach Ty Tang hopes they could sustain their form.
“It’s all about focusing on what we have to do, on what we have discussed in practices, and then giving it our best in the game,” said Tang, now on his third season with the Blazers.
Mapua, in contrast, hopes to end a three-game slide to tie with Arellano at the bottom standings.
Cardinals’ new mentor Randy Alcantara is not panicking.
“We just have to continue fighting, and if we can find ways to win, that’s good,” Alcantara said. “Remember that we have a relatively young team, and we know it’s going to be tough each game.”
