Manny Pacquiao is staging a world title fight that is free to the public on Aug. 24 at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate, Manila.
Headlining the Pacquiao-promoted slugfest is Filipino champion John Riel Casimero’s defense of the interim WBO bantamweight crown against Mexican Cesar Ramirez.
“This is just one of the many ways the Senator’s giving back to his fans and followers,” said MP Promotions’ president Sean Gibbons, referring to Pacquiao’s decision to offer the fight to everyone.
MP Promotions is in the thick of lending a hand to Filipino boxers under its banner, including reigning world champion Jerwin Ancajas, former world titleholder Marlon Tapales and a few other rising stars.
Also appearing in the undercard of the Casimero-Ramirez duel is Rio Olympian Charly Suarez and one-time youth standout Christian Pitt Laurente.
Casimero was declared by the WBO as its interim 118-lb champion since South African Zolani Tete is on the injured list.
Tete is now on the road to recovery and Gibbons will start negotiations with Tete immediately after Casimero handles business next week.
