San Beda shoots for a sweep of the opening round of elimination against Mapua in NCAA Season 95 Tueasday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Red Lions are fresh from an 88-57 victory over St. Benilde, but are not looking past the Cardinalas, who have won their last three assignments.
“It’s a bit tough to keep (an unbeaten record) going, but we will try to continue and score a win. I mentioned already that we’re not about win streaks or runs, because our only concern in to get the win,” Fernandez said.
“We’ll be facing one of the hottest teams in the league. Mapua has done an excellent and wonderful job in their last three games. We’ll try to prepare as hard as we can for them.”
The defending three-time champion San Beda meets Mapua at 2 p.m., a game that was originally set Aug. 6 but was canceled because of bad weather.
Also clashing in the men’s triple-header are Letran against St. Benilde at 12 noon, and season host Arellano University against San Sebastian at 4 p.m.
In their previous game, SBU’s Calvin Oftana finished with a career best 27 points, while guard AC Soberano added 14 points and James Kwekuteye-Canlas 11 points that stretched the team’s winning run to 22 games dating back to last season.
The last time the Red Lions lost was Aug. 21 during the first round of elimination against Lyceum.
The SSC Stags and St. Benilde Blazers look to rebound from recent losses. T
