Defending three-time champion San Beda University guns for a first round sweep against Mapua in the NCAA Season 95 Friday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Red Lions are heavy favorites, having won their last three games by an average of 31 points.
Lions coach Boyet Fernandez isn’t looking beyond the Cardinals, however.
“They’ve been playing well so far, and credit that to (new) coach Randy Alcantara, who has done a great job. Even in their losses, they were competing really hard and finally they found ways to win,” said Fernandez.
“We expect them to come out strong, we expect them to compete hard – the same way they’ve been competing against the other teams. We’ll be ready for them, we want to keep winning because that’s our goal.”
Game time is 2 p.m. after the 12 noon encounter between Letran and St. Benilde, with Blazers coach TY Tang back after a one-game suspension. Host Arellano U and San Sebastian clash at 4.
Fernandez is getting solid performances from his mainstays, notably Cameroonian Donald Tankoua, Calvin Oftana, Evan Nelle and James Canlas-Kwekuteye.
As for the Cardinals, who are coming off an 83-63 win against Jose Rizal University, Alcantara will be relying on Noah Lugo, Laurenz Victoria, Eric Jabel, Christian Bunag and Cyril Gonzales.
