Navarrete determined to repulse Elorde

Mexican knockout puncher Emanuel Navarrete is not taking Filipino challenger Juan Miguel Elorde for granted that is not leaving any stone unturned in his buildup for their Sept. 14 clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Navarrete, 24, the reigning World Boxing Organization super-bantamweight champion, recently hosted an open workout in
Tijuana where he showcased his vaunted volume punching.

“We feel very good, very strong. You have to remember that I fought less than a month ago, so I bring that conditioning and accumulated
preparation and right now I feel very strong, very fast, without any weight problems and I’m ready to give a great fight, against a very
strong opponent,” said Navarrete, who has a 28-1 record with 24 KOs.

Elorde, the grandson of the late Hall of Famer Flash Elorde, will be fighting for the world title for the first time.

Armed with a 28-1 mark with 15 KOs, Elorde, 32, has been training diligently since Sept. 1 in Los Angeles.

Elorde is the huge underdog and will attempt to join Manny Pacquiao, Nonito Donaire, Jerwin Ancajas and newly-crowned Pedro Taduran on the growing list of Filipino world champions.

Bob Arum of Top Rank is staging the Navarrete-Elorde slugfest.
