Two-time defending champion Ateneo edged Adamson 80-74 on Wednesday to remain unscathed in UAAP season 82 men’s basketball at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Eagles stretched their winning run to nine games behind the efforts of Thirdy Ravena, who pumped in 23 points, four rebounds and five steals.

They also duplicated their 70-52 first-round triumph against the Falcons on opening day.

Will Navarro also shone with 11 points, eight boards and four blocks, while Matt Nieto and Matthew Davies contributed 11 and 10 points.

Adamson threatened late in the game when fastbreak shot from Joshua Yerro after a steal off Adrian Wong sliced off Ateneo’s lead to 77-74 in the last 18 seconds.

But the Eagles held their composure in the end game.

Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin credited Adamson’s resilience.

“(They) played 40 minutes of tough basketball. We just really survived at the end of the game,” he said.

Adamson slipped to a fourth straight defeat and fell to 3-6 to tie with University of the East near the bottom.

Jerrick Ahanmisi and Val Chauca scored 17 points, Lenda Douanga had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Yerro finished with 12 points but their efforts failed to translate into a victory.
