Ceres-Negros clinched its third straight Philippines Football League crown over the weekend with a 3-1 win over Green Archers United at the Aboitiz Pitch in Lipa City, Batangas.
Angelo Marasigan scored the equalizer and Bievenido Maranon struck twice to seal the title for the Busmen with two games left in the season.
The Busmen improved to 56 points, six clear of second-running Kaya-Iloilo.
Coach Risko Vidakovic’s side will formally awarded on Saturday when it takes on Kaya at the same venue.
Ceres won despite missing key players due to the upcoming stint with the Philippine Azkals in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
It also fell behind 1-0 on an opener by United’s John Celiz in the first half.
Marasigan tied the count five minutes after the restart before Maranon came through with his 26th and 27th goals of the season.
Maranon scored from the spot after United committed a handball before producing Ceres’ third goal late in the match.
